Visit to ''when she comes'' trail at Glacis

The CEO of Seychelles Heritage Foundation, Benjamine Rose and the Heritage Technician from National Heritage Research section, Ms. Tina Siméon were part of the delegation who responded to the initiative of MNA, Regina Alcindor to have a visit at the heritage site, ‘’when she comes’’.

The site got its name during the 2nd World War, when Seychelles was a British Colony. Local Seychellois were recruited to be part of the British Army and this hillside of Glacis was identified as a strategic point to be a lookout post for the enemy ships. Soldiers travelling forth and back to build the lookout post used to sing the song ‘’When she comes’ ’around the mountain. It was a song they adopted to create a kind of togetherness and bravery during war time. Out of this song, the mountain was named.

The site offers a moderate shady walk of about 1hr 30 minutes before you reach the summit, which consists of 2 visible ruins of the lookout post. It has a 360° view of the bay of Beau Vallon up to the west coast of Pointe Larue, an ideal spot for beautiful photos.

In general the walk offers a good historical background of Seychelles involvement in the 2nd World War, as well as a beautiful scenic view of the lush vegetation and endemic species along the way.

The visit was done especially to discuss the way forward on how to make the trail becomes a National Trail that is accessible to public to enjoy and learn about the history of the place.
